During my college search, going Greek was the last thing on my mind. I had no plans of exploring Greek life, and it played no part in my decision to come to Murray State. It was not until my Racer Nation Orientation leaders convinced me that I needed to rush that I found my home in Alpha Delta Pi.
None of my family members were in a sorority or fraternity, so I had no idea what to expect when it came to actually being involved in Greek life. When I got my bid, or a formal invitation to join a sorority, I was excited but also a little nervous. I knew ADPi was where I belonged, but I knew nothing of what the experience of a new member was like. Luckily, I had amazing guides to lead me through the process.
From the director of new membership experience, or Alpha mom, to my amazing big (an already-initiated sister who is paired with a new member and acts as a support and guide) and my chapter, I received so much support throughout my time as a new member. The first semester in Greek life is always super chaotic, but my amazing sisterhood kept me going. They wanted me to be a full member in the chapter as much as I wanted to be one. By the time I was initiated, I felt so loved by all the girls of my sorority.
Now, I continue to feel the love of my sisterhood everyday. Whether it’s a little exchange of “hellos” while walking around campus or enjoying sporting events together, I am constantly reminded of the people I have in my corner. I will not lie, I am not best friends with everyone in my chapter, but we all share a deep connection through our shared values and sisterhood.
Being in Alpha Delta Pi has truly been one of the best experiences of my college career. It has given me opportunities to grow, learn and connect with others. Without ADPi, I would not have met some of my best friends. Though I was hesitant about joining a sorority at first, I am so thankful I took that leap of faith and went through recruitment.
