Hello everyone and welcome to Murray State University! I am so thrilled to be on campus with you all for the 2022-2023 school year. My name is Ellie McGowan, and I am the Student Government Association President and Student Regent for this school year, and it is my honor and privilege to welcome each of you to what will become some of the best years and experiences of your life.
Starting out my freshman year in 2020, I came to college slightly nervous, but excited, to embark on this new and unfamiliar journey. I never imagined that this university, this campus, and these people would impact me so much. However, I reside here, two years later, ever thankful and blessed to have made so many meaningful connections within my academic and extracurricular endeavors. Our Racer Community is special to all in so many different ways, and I can assure you that every student has a place here. Pursue your fondest passions and biggest dreams here, because I promise you that there is always someone here who will have your back.
Many opportunities will be presented to you as a student here. Whether it’s serving in a leadership role for a Registered Student Organization, playing intramural sports with your Residential College, volunteering in the local community, joining a Greek organization, or pursuing academic research within your field of study, there is always a way to get involved and pursue your passions. However, one thing I hope to carry with me throughout my studies here is that some of the most important moments and times here aren’t limited to physical involvement. Some of my best friendships were developed within the second floor of Hollis C. Franklin Hall, and some of my most fond memories were going to Wing Wednesdays at Winslow every week! One thing that has shaped my experience the most have been the incredible individuals that fill this Racer Community – and I will forever be grateful for my small role within it.
Now, embark on your own Murray State journey within our Racer Community. I have no doubt that each of you will impact Murray State in your own unique way, but I can assure you that being a part of this Racer Family will impact you as well. You will always be able to call this place home.
